Kasey O'Keefe, '08, recognized for Excellence in Education

Vanguard School Special Education teacher and Levittown, Pennsylvania resident Kasey O’Keefe was awarded the school’s Excellence in Education Award Friday, June 20 at Valley Forge Educational Services’ Annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon. O’Keefe was nominated by her co-workers and recognized for her positive impact on students and colleagues, pursuit of increased knowledge or skills to improve performance, rapport with students, and words of encouragement for coworkers and selflessness and willingness to be of service in whatever capacity needed. The Award is presented annually to a peer-nominated Vanguard School staff member who provides direct services to students on a daily basis in recognition of his or her continuing efforts to make The Vanguard School a better place.

O’Keefe was hired as a High School Classroom Aide at The Vanguard School in August 2008. In September 2009, she was promoted to Classroom Teacher in the Middle School and has held that position ever since. Not only is she committed to the students and their learning, growth and success, O’Keefe also regularly shares her extensive experience teaching children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and knowledge of special education with colleagues as well as local community service organizations including local fire departments.

Tim Krushinski, Director of The Vanguard School, praised O’Keefe for her dedication, compassion and ability to create a classroom environment conducive to learning where her students continually excel and prosper. “Kasey is committed to helping her students develop the skills and confidence needed to recognize their potential as contributing members of the community. These positive, beneficial attributes will stay with our students throughout their years in the Upper School and long after their time at The Vanguard School is over. Kasey is instrumental in fostering academic, interpersonal and life skills achievement in each student who comes into her class.”
